Making custom jewellery is not difficult if you have a good sense of style and creativity, while the skills needed to make jewelelry are very easy to learn. You must aim at making your pieces unique so that when your client wears jewelry that you designed and created she knows that there is none other like it in the whole world.

It is actually not easy to work with clients because it is very hard to match the picture in your mind with that in their minds. Do not risk losing a client by working in their presence and showing them how easy it is to do it themselves. The only way to know what custom jewellery design that will match their style and the type of person of your clients are is to talk to them at length. If the piece is to be a gift for someone else, ask lots of questions about that person, and if possible, meet them in person yourself.

They may even want you to just enhance a piece that they already have that is old and requires work to make it look new again. Before you start doing this, make sure that you have the skill and qualifications necessary to do this work because the last thing you want is destroy a client's beloved jewelry! Find out all you can about the piece and what special meaning, if any, it holds for the owner.


After all you don't want to lose money so once you've quoted a price, deduct 15 to 30 percent from it. After setting aside 15 to 30 percent, use the remainder as your budget to buy supplies to make the custom jewelry.

Supplies of pieces from wholesale sources will have to be purchased to make your custom jewelry. Making sure you are buying quality parts from unique sources overseas can cause you to spend more - so make sure you quote your client a price that is profitable to you, may people make this mistake.
